The Harmony Hammond papers chronicle the development of feminist, lesbian, queer and visual culture from the 1970s through the 2000s. Included is correspondence with luminaries of feminism and art such as Rita Mae Brown, Kate Millett, and Lucy Lippard, as well as documentation of lesbian art history assembled by Hammond over several decades.

Harmony Hammond (b. Feb. 8, 1944, Chicago, IL) earned a B.A. in painting from the University of Minnesota in 1967. She co-founded the A.I.R. Gallery in 1972 and Heresies: A Feminist Publication of Art and Politics in 1976. Heresies's core group consisted of Joyce Kozloff, Miriam Schapiro, Joan Semmel, Lucy Lippard, Mary Beth Edelson, Nancy Spero, and Harmony Hammond.
